Join us as the Symphony Orchestra teams up with the Northwest Children’s Theater for a brilliantly hued program of movement, puppetry, and orchestral fireworks inspired by birds. The Starlings, Northwest Children’s Theater’s “all-puppet, all-bird acting troupe,” enlivens the stage as the Symphony Orchestra perform the birdsong-infused showpiece Gli uccelli by master orchestral colorist, Ottorino Respighi, and the beloved original suite from Igor Stravinsky’s The Firebird, one of the great ballets of the 20th century. This program also includes the WORLD PREMIERE of Fugue for Orchestra by Lakeridge High School junior Max Ball, the second in a series of three commissions which comprise “The Authentic Voice,” a partnership with Fear No Music’s Young Composers Project sponsored by Ronni Lacroute. Finally, the third movement from Jacques Ibert’s engaging Flute Concerto, features Westview High School senior John Nguyen, one of the winners of the 2019 MYS Concerto Competition.

This concert is presented in partnership with the Audubon Society of Portland and Backyard Bird Shop.

After noon on 3/1, tickets will be available for purchase at the door or via Portland5.
