November 14, 2021 Season Opener – Fate Knocking
Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall
Symphony Orchestra performs:
- Theme and Variations on “Subwoofer Lullaby,” based on the video game soundtrack from Minecraft, originally composed by the German producer and sound engineer C418 (Daniel Rosenfeld). These variations were arranged and composed by Ryan Francis (MYS’ theory coordinator), Elaina Rae Stuppler, Joseph Young, Haladar Wright, and Kara Taylor. All four young musicians are part of The Authentic Voice commissioning program in partnership with Fear No Music’s Young Composers Project.
- Symphony No. 5 in C minor by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 – 1827). The German composer and pianist is considered one of the most brilliant Western composers of all time, and a crucial transitional figure connecting the Classical and Romantic ages of Western music. His fifth symphony is one of the best-known compositions in classical music and it is widely considered one of the cornerstones of western music.
Concert Orchestra performs:
- American Suite in A Major, Op. 98a by Antonín Dvořák (1841-1904)
- Symphony 104 (“London Symphony” No. 7) in D Major by Joseph Haydn (1732–1809)
