Welcome to our new Artistic Team members!
MYS is thrilled to welcome Elizabeth Peyton and Kenji Bunch to our Artistic Team!
Ms. Peyton will be conducting Baroque Strings. She is a tenured member of the Portland Opera and Oregon Ballet Theater Orchestras and is on the music faculty of Reed College, as well as being an avid educator of younger musicians. You can learn more about her on the Artistic Team page of our website. We are so excited and lucky to have her work with our students!
Composer Kenji Bunch will be the Director of MYSfits String Ensemble and will be taking the group in a new direction to explore music beyond what has been traditionally considered “classical.” Mr. Bunch’s experiences as a multi-style musician to help widen our tent and make room for approaches to string playing and music-making previously considered ‘non-classical.’ Through this work, our students will have the potential to become true musical omnivores and help recalibrate expectations for what the next generation of string players could- or should- be capable of in the 21st century. Dr. Gómez will be continuing this year as the conductor of Symphony and Interlude Orchestras!
