New Students: Register for 2020-21 Winter Term!
MYS welcomes students at all levels of musical experience and from all backgrounds to register for our Winter Term. With orchestra, band, jazz, percussion and string ensembles offered, and tuition assistance available, there is an opportunity for everyone.
MYS’ online program provides students a place to stay connected to their music and to their friends, while working on a variety of repertoire including classical masterworks and new music by young and diverse composers from Portland and beyond. In addition to our excellent team of conductors, MYS has new core artistic faculty, consisting primarily of Oregon Symphony musicians, who lead weekly studio classes with small groups of musicians for enhanced learning.
To register, complete the registration form and you will receive instructions for video submission. Auditions are still being accepted.
Statement of Culture
MYS is a welcoming community of students, families, conductors, coaches, teachers, supporters and volunteers. On stage and off, MYS STUDENTS SUPPORT EACH OTHER AND INSPIRE ONE ANOTHER. We empower our students to achieve EXCELLENCE in a balanced and meaningful way, by supporting their musical development and celebrating their varied interests and passions.
MYS is a safe space for all students. MYS does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, creed, religion, color, national origin, age, veteran or military status, sexual orientation including gender expression or identity, or the presence of any mental or physical disability in its employment, programs and/or activities.
2020-2021 Season Update
Due to ongoing safety concerns related to COVID-19, we have decided that the remainder of our 2020-21 season will be online. This format has been a wonderful way to keep music in our student’s lives while giving them time with Oregon Symphony musicians, international guest artists, students from other youth orchestras, and new MYS friends. If it is permitted and safe to meet in-person for Spring Term, we will consider that possibility, but we anticipate that we will remain online for the year. Please visit our 2020-21 Season Update page for more information.
