MYS Toured Spain and Portugal July 2024!

Every three years, top MYS players and alumni travel abroad to share their music with an international audience. Started decades ago by founder Lajos Balogh, these tours have been one of the highlights of our program, and this year’s tour was no different! Our students were amazing artistic ambassadors and we will be looking back fondly on this experience for years to come. Follow along on our adventures below!

Hear from the Community

You get to know the people here and then you look forward to every Saturday. It’s that one constant that makes you know that you have your own little place in your community.

—2014-15 MYS Student

What I like about MYS is that I get to play music with a band at my level. Because the band at my school is all beginners. And I like how we get to perform at concerts.

—Christina, age 13

Thanks for letting me have an outlet to make new friends and play music I enjoy.

—Ivy, age 15

I like MYS because it has a place for everybody, no matter what age, skill level, or instrument.

—Taylor, age 13

Being able to participate in orchestra, in any form, is a difficult thing to do for children who are from low socioeconomic status. Many public schools no longer offer orchestra and so is the case for my daughter. She has never received a private lesson so she tries to soak up everything being taught in her Overture class from MYS. I really can’t thank MYS enough for giving her the opportunity.

—Taehee, parent

Thank you for your program and for providing my son with tuition assistance. I want to support my son with his passion for the trombone and the love of making beautiful music. Thank you for taking the time to assist talented young men and women who would not otherwise be able to pursue their dreams.

—Anonymous Parent

I learned that you can do music if you put your heart in to it and if you use teamwork. I was amazed at how good you all played it was amazing to hear. I loved it. Thank you we all loved it.

—Cheyenne, fifth grader at James John

Before your amazing performance I thought that symphonies were boring and just loud noise. But now I have heard the exquisite sound of joy. That day I learned the true meaning of music. The true meaning is to show your hard work and just enjoy all you can.

—Sage, 5th grader at James John

My daughter has been playing in the MYS Concert Orchestra since September 2013 and she loves it. Playing with a full orchestra along with the beautiful music that is chosen for the group means it’s never a chore to get her to the weekly rehearsals.
