Marrowstone Festival Invitation, Aug 1 & 2 [canceled]

CANCELED! Hi all: unfortunately, the Marrostone Festival had to cancel the Olympia-Portland leg of their festival this year. We are all hoping for another opportunity for collaboration in the future. Thanks!

Led by Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra (SYSO) Music Director Juan Felipe Molano, SYSO’s two-week training program for advanced musicians will take place in Seattle in 2023. Marrowstone’s daily schedule of rehearsals, sectionals, chamber music, masterclasses and musicianship classes will culminate with performances in Olympia, Portland, and Seattle, with an overnight stay in Olympia at Evergreen State College.

SYSO would like to invite MYS Symphony and Concert Orchestra musicians to join us for an overnight stay at Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA as part of Marrowstone’s mini-PNW tour. Students are welcome to meet us at Evergreen the afternoon of Tuesday, August 1 to rehearse and perform an evening concert on campus, followed by an overnight stay in the dorms. The following morning, everyone will travel together in buses to Portland to rehearse and perform another evening concert at the Melody Event Center. All meals will be provided.

For those who can’t make it to Olympia, students are also welcome to join us in Portland for the rehearsal and concert at the Melody Center on Wednesday, August 2.

Invitation from Jeff Peyton

Dear Symphony musicians,

This is going to be my final year with MYS! It’s been an amazing 9 years being part of the MYS community, getting to know so many of you and making great music together.

I wanted to extend the invitation to come play with Concert Orchestra for my final concert! We are playing Wagner’s Overture to Die Meistersinger, one of the great late Romantic pieces of all time! We are also playing the Berceuse and Finale from Stravinsky’s Firebird, one of my all-time favorite pieces of 20th century music.

The concert is Sunday May 14th at 4:00 pm at the Melody Center. There is a sound check that day at 1:00 pm. If you can make the performance date, and would like to sit in on either piece (or both) please email me directly at jeffrey.peyton@gmail.com

You can find parts on the MYS website. If you’d like to play, please come to rehearsal this Saturday morning (9:30 am -12:30 pm). You don’t need to stay for the whole rehearsal, just the part where we are rehearsing the piece you want to play.

I would love to have you come join us!

Mr. Peyton
